Prompt Cards by Julimbob

Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Your prompt decks belong to you and are stored on your device, with optional iCloud sync. The app has no advertising or usage analytics.

About this policy

This policy covers the Prompt Cards app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and its website at julimbob.com/promptcards.

The app does not contain advertising, analytics or cross-app tracking. We do not sell personal information.

Data on your device

Decks are stored in the app’s local storage, including card text, deck titles, and schedule rules.

Your decks may contain personal information you choose to enter. Deleting a card or deck immediately removes its content from the app’s saved local library, including obsolete revisions. Card deletion can still be undone while editing. For deleted decks, the app keeps a minimal deletion record containing technical identifiers and deletion information, without card text, deck titles or schedule rules, to prevent old copies from returning. On iPhone and iPad, deleting the app rather than offloading it removes its local app data.

Optional iCloud sync: You can choose to sync, or keep decks on this device. The Sync with iCloud control at the bottom of Edit Decks sets the default for new decks; each deck’s settings also lets you choose whether that deck syncs. Only selected decks, including their schedule rules, are copied to your private iCloud Documents container through Apple’s iCloud service. This can include event titles or names and birthdays you have entered in a rule. The Prompt Cards app developer does not receive this content in any way. Apple handles iCloud data under its own privacy terms and your account settings.

Turning off sync for a deck removes its iCloud content as soon as possible and keeps the copies already on your devices. Those copies become independent when each device receives the change. Turning app-wide sync off applies this to every synced deck, clears the deck selections and keeps new decks local. Pending iCloud removal continues while sync is off, only in the account where that content was synced. Turning sync on again for a retained local deck creates a new iCloud copy; other stopped local copies remain independent. A change of iCloud account switches syncing off and requires explicit enabling for the new account. Signing out leaves your local decks available.

If a deck has been synced with iCloud, the app removes deleted content and obsolete revisions from its iCloud storage as soon as it can access the same account and Apple’s iCloud service. Other devices apply the changes when they next sync. Network availability, account access and Apple’s transfer timing can delay removal. Minimal records of deletion or stopped sync remain without deck content to prevent old cloud copies from returning. Device backups and copies you export or share are managed separately and are not erased by deleting content in the app.

Links in prompt text may open another website. That website receives normal browsing information and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Calendar and birthdays

The app asks for Calendar access so it can show a relevant deck around an event. If you allow access and have event-based schedule rules, it reads events in the relevant time window and compares their titles and start and end times with those rules. Matching happens on your device. The app does not upload your Calendar event list to the app developer.

You can optionally use Apple’s contact picker when creating a birthday rule. The app copies the selected contact’s name and birthday month and day into that rule. It does not import your whole address book. You can also enter birthday details manually.

Schedule rules are part of a deck file. An event title you enter, or a name and birthday saved in a rule, is stored with the deck on your device and copied through iCloud if you enable sync for that deck. Declining Calendar access still lets you use the app and other types of schedule rules.

Support messages

If you use the support form, we receive your message and any name or email address you choose to provide. Name and email are optional; an email address lets us reply. If you contact us by email instead, we receive your email address, message and any other information you include. Please avoid sending passwords or sensitive personal information.

Julimbob, the developer of Prompt Cards, uses this information to respond to questions, investigate problems and consider suggestions. The website form runs on Krystal hosting and uses its mail service to send your message to promptcards@julimbob.com, which forwards to the developer’s inbox. The hosting and email services involved process the message and delivery information to deliver, store and protect the correspondence.

To prevent abuse, the form also reads your IP address and stores a hashed version of it with submission times in private server storage. Only the preceding hour is used for rate limits; older records are removed when this storage is next successfully updated. These records do not contain your name, email address or message. Website request logs are handled as described below.

We retain support correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request and related follow-up, then delete it unless we need to keep it to meet a legal obligation. You can request deletion by contacting promptcards@julimbob.com. Copies in hosting or email backups may remain until those providers’ normal backup retention periods expire.

Your choices and rights

You can edit or delete your cards, decks and schedule rules, revoke Calendar access in your device’s privacy settings, and use birthdays without the contact picker. Deleting content in the app removes local content and sends changes to iCloud as described above. Uninstalling the app or removing its local data alone does not remove iCloud copies or backups. You can turn off sync in Edit Decks and manage the app’s iCloud data in Apple’s storage settings. Julimbob cannot access or erase your private deck library on your device or in iCloud.

For personal information we hold from a website visit or support request, you may have rights to access, correct or delete it, restrict its use, object to processing, or receive a portable copy, depending on the circumstances and applicable law. You can disable future website analytics using the choices described in this policy. Contact us below to make a request or raise a concern.

In the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Elsewhere, you can contact your local data protection authority.

Website and analytics

The Prompt Cards website’s privacy practices are separate from the app’s. Our hosting provider, Krystal, processes web requests to deliver and protect the site. Requests contain information such as your IP address, page requested, browser information and request time, which may appear in access or error logs. Hosting logs follow the provider’s operational retention settings and are used as needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the website.

The published website uses Matomo analytics, hosted on julimbob.com. Analytics scripts, requests and cookies start by default unless you have chosen Decline analytics. You can change this using Analytics preferences in the Log In or account menu on the Julimbob homepage. A preference cookie remembers an explicit choice across julimbob.com and its subdomains for 180 days; analytics visitor and referral cookies are also configured to last up to 180 days.

While enabled, Matomo measures page visits, referral and campaign sources, link and download clicks, approximate location derived from your IP address, and browser and device information. Stored IP addresses are anonymised. It does not use your device’s GPS or record form contents, page fragments or arbitrary URL query parameters; recognised campaign parameters may be retained. Reports cover visits where analytics is enabled and the tracker can load.

Choose Decline analytics or, after accepting, Withdraw consent in Analytics preferences to stop further analytics and remove analytics cookies. Choosing Reset choice clears your saved preference and starts analytics again. If your saved decline expires or you clear the preference cookie, analytics starts by default on a later visit. We rely on our legitimate interests for necessary website operation and security.
